Dodgers Game Day: What to Know.

Arizona took the series 4-2. Kansas City tonight at 7:10. And the rule that lets you walk Guisados through the gate at Dodger Stadium.

LoCal Sports — More than the game. It's about the community that comes together because of it.

The whole thing was over by the end of the second inning.

Arizona put two on the board in the first and two more in the second.

The Dodgers spent the next seven innings scratching back one run at a time and never got there.

Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 2.

Six hits each.

Arizona went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and still won, which tells you exactly how little the Dodgers did with their own chances.

The number that decided it.

Mookie Betts. Teoscar Hernández. Tommy Edman. Shohei Ohtani.

Combined: 0-for-15.

The top four in the order did not record a hit.

Not one.

Ohtani went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter, Betts drew a walk and nothing else, and by the time the lineup turned over to the people who actually got on base, the deficit was already four.

Andy Pages went 2-for-4 with a double.

Kyle Tucker tripled and drove in a run.

Freddie Freeman had a hit and scored.

That was the offense — the bottom of the order carrying a team hitting .188 for the afternoon.

We got the pitching matchup exactly backwards.

Our preview made a point of Justin Wrobleski's reverse splits — right-handed hitters were batting .220 against him, which was supposed to blunt Arizona's righty-heavy lineup.

It did not.

Wrobleski lasted 3.1 innings.

Six hits, four runs, three walks, and a two-run home run to Ketel Marte.

Seventy-six pitches to get ten outs.

And Eduardo Rodríguez, who we noted was coming off a start where he gave up seven runs on eleven hits, threw seven innings with nine strikeouts and gave up two runs.

Kevin Ginkel closed it.

That is baseball, and it is worth saying plainly rather than quietly moving on: the read was wrong.

One thing that did hold up — the bullpen.

Evan Phillips, Edgardo Henriquez, Kyle Hurt and Jonathan Hernández covered the last 4.2 innings without allowing a run.

The relief has not been the problem.

Arizona takes the season series.

We flagged this before first pitch.

The teams were level at six wins each with one game left, so the finale decided the season series and the head-to-head tiebreaker that goes with it.

Arizona has it.

In August that is a footnote.

In late September, if two teams finish level, it stops being one.

Tonight: Kansas City at Dodger Stadium, 7:10.

The Dodgers come home for three against the Royals, then three more against Milwaukee.

Six straight at Chavez Ravine.

After a road trip that produced two wins in the last eight games, a homestand is the schedule doing them a favor.

What to watch: whether the top of the order comes back to life. Betts, Ohtani, Edman and Hernández are too good to keep going hitless as a group, and a home crowd against a Kansas City club that does not scare anybody is where that usually gets fixed.

Check the probables before you go — starters change late and the lineup card is the only thing that counts.

You are allowed to bring your own food into Dodger Stadium.

Not smuggled.

Not in a jacket pocket.

Openly, through the gate, past security.

It is written into the club's own fan policy, and most people who have been going for years still do not know it.

The rule, exactly as written.

From the Dodgers directly: food is permitted from outside the stadium provided it is in a clear bag smaller than 12″ × 12″ × 6″ and not in glass bottles, cans, coolers, glass containers or thermoses.

Unbroken, factory-sealed plastic bottles of non-alcoholic drinks of one liter or less are also fine.

Non-clear bags must be tiny — 5″ × 8″ × 2″, roughly half a sheet of paper. Your food goes in the clear bag, not that one.
No re-entry. You cannot pop out for food and come back. Buy it before you park.
No coolers, thermoses, glass or cans. Not even for water.
Suites are exempt — no outside food or drink in stadium suites.
Gates open about two hours before first pitch, parking about two and a half.

The size limit is the whole puzzle.

Twelve by twelve by six is roughly a shoebox.

A large pizza box does not fit. A tray of anything does not fit. Soup in a thermos is explicitly out.

What fits: tacos, sandwiches, burritos, anything wrapped in foil or packed flat. Handheld food that survives twenty minutes in a car and needs no cutlery. That is the brief.

Here are a few of our go-to favorites:

Eastside Italian Deli — 1013 Alpine St

About a mile from the stadium, tucked into the hill above Chinatown.

We get the hot Italian sausage and cheese and the hot roast beef and cheese. Both, every time, and then we argue about which was better on the way up the hill.

Rated 4.7 across more than 2,000 reviews. A paper-wrapped sandwich is also the better piece of engineering for this — it holds heat, does not leak, and eats cleanly one-handed in a seat.

Read this before you plan around it. They close at 4 p.m. on weekdays and do not open at all on Saturday or Sunday.

For a 7:10 weeknight game this is a pick-up-on-the-way-home-from-work move. Get them in the afternoon, leave them wrapped, and they are still good at first pitch. For a weekend game they are simply not an option.

Guisados — 541 S Spring St, Downtown

The tacos are small, which means a proper meal fits inside twelve by twelve by six without any planning at all.

Get the chuleta en chile verde. Pork chop in green chile. It is the one we order every time and the one we would put in front of somebody who had never been.

Rated 4.6 across more than 2,400 reviews. Open until 10 on weeknights, 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The six-taco sampler is the efficient order if you are feeding somebody who cannot decide. Roughly two miles out, so build in downtown traffic.

The order of operations.

Order ahead. A game-night walk-in is where the plan dies.
Pick it up before you park. There is no re-entry.
Repack in the car — foil, clamshells and paper all go into one clear bag.
Leave glass and cans behind. Sealed plastic under a liter only.
Get there early. Gates open two hours out.

Partly this is money. Three people eating at the stadium is real money; three people eating Guisados is not. Mostly it is that the food is better, and that it is from here. Eating a pork chop in green chile from a counter on Spring Street while watching a game in Chavez Ravine is a more Los Angeles evening than anything sold on the concourse.

And if you would rather eat after.

A 7:10 game ends around ten. Almost every restaurant near the stadium closes at ten.

Guisados downtown, El Compadre on Sunset and Sol Agave at LA Live are all excellent and all shut at 10 p.m. on a Monday.

The Douglas, 1400 Sunset Blvd — four tenths of a mile away, open to midnight, 4.8 across 200+ reviews. Cheap draft, a serious bar burger, sidewalk seating. If you remember one name, make it this one.
Lowboy, 1540 Sunset Blvd — open to 1 a.m. Burgers, fries, cold beer. Good when The Douglas is packed, which it will be.
Suehiro Mini, 642 N Broadway, Chinatown — open to 1 a.m. nightly. Curry, ramen, yakisoba, out of the worst of the lot traffic. No restroom in the restaurant, so go before you leave the stadium.
Sticky Rice, 1801 Sunset Blvd — Thai, open to 11 on a Monday, 4.7 across nearly 2,000 reviews. Only works if you leave before the ninth.

These are all great choices when picking up something to eat right after a late Dodgers game.
